G.I. Johns | A Company That Gives a Crap

Yes, they rent porta potties. And behind the name is a company doing meaningful work for the people who have served our country.

G.I. Johns (now called Ameri-Cans) helps veterans build careers and find community after military service. Working alongside people who understand their experiences provides a sense of purpose and belonging, especially for veterans navigating the challenges of PTSD or life outside of the military.

That commitment goes beyond their own team. A portion of each toilet rental supports the Travis Manion Foundation, dedicated to a Marine lieutenant killed in Iraq in 2007 while protecting his fellow service members. The foundation helps veterans and families of the fallen carry that spirit of service forward through youth mentorship, leadership development, and community projects.

In 2023, Schwartzy was asked to bring the story to life in a corporate film for an annual gala. The goal was to introduce the business, share the experiences of the veterans behind it, and show how its everyday work helps support a larger mission.

The request came a little late, and G.I. Johns wasn’t sure there would be enough time to pull it off but we told them we’d get it done. (the Marine Corps way). Aaron handled the filming and editing himself as a one-man-band, moving quickly from production through delivery.

The finished video was delivered in time for the gala, giving G.I. Johns a story they were proud to put in front of the room. The team was thrilled and told us afterward that the film received high praise from all the attendees. It helped people understand what they were building, who it was helping, and why it mattered.

For Aaron, a Marine veteran himself, this one was special to make.
