PBS | Dream of Italy (Sting)
For this PBS special in 2019, we spent three days in Tuscany filming with Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler, at their Italian estate, one of several stories anchoring a show about how Italy can change your life.
"Dream of Italy: Travel, Transform and Thrive" follows host Kathy McCabe through the essential elements of the Italian lifestyle: the land, the food, family, art and culture, pace of life, passion, and a sense of home. She explores them through the stories of full- and part-time expats, including Sting and Trudie Styler, filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, "Under the Tuscan Sun" author Frances Mayes, and financial author David Bach, among others.
We shot in the thick of a Tuscan summer, fast days and serious heat, but the setting and the company made it one of the more memorable things we’ve done. Getting to spend three days creating with an artist like Sting, in a place like that, is the kind of thing you don't forget.
The Result
The special became the most popular installment in the "Dream of Italy" series, introducing PBS audiences to a deeper, more personal side of Italy, and a quieter side of Sting than fans usually see. For us, it was a genuine bucket-list shoot: a career favorite musician, an unforgettable setting, and a project we're proud to have on the roster. On the final night, which was Sting and Trudie’s wedding anniversary, he had a little acoustic performance for a small group of people and some locals who heard what was happening and wanted to catch a glimpse. Great experience.
