In September 2013, I went with a group of friends to a place called Havasu Falls – in the Grand Canyon. My friend Mina, a true outdoors enthusiast, told me that it’s one of the most amazing places in the world and I need to go. It sounded intriguing but it wasn’t until I started looking up pictures and Youtubing videos that I knew I had to go.
It’s an amazing and pretty intense trip. You start at the top of the Grand Canyon and hike 1 mile all the way down to the bottom of the canyon with everything you’ll need for a week on your back. You hike 10 miles to an Indian reservation where the Havasupai people live. The entire hike is amazing and you feel like you’re on another planet. Once you get to the reservation, you check in (they don’t want a lot of people there at one time) and hike another mile or so to get to the campgrounds. The place is a total oasis in the middle of the Grand Canyon. Beautiful blue/green waters, wild (but nice) dogs, amazing waterfalls, fresh spring water to drink, caves to explore, cliff jumping, rope swings, etc, etc. It’s like nature’s Disney Land. I imagine you have to like being outdoors and be ok living out in nature for a week but I think anybody can appreciate this place. It’s a very spiritual experience.
My 2013 trip was absolutely amazing and I didn’t think it could be topped. That said, we got there during monsoon season and the day after a flash flood so the water was more brown/green/foggy than all of the pictures/videos you see online. I made a video (see below) of our 2013 trip (“Havasupai 2013 – Like A Boss”) and it spread throughout Facebook and other people were inspired and wanted to check this place out. So, Mina organized another trip and instead of 5 people….15 people were on board to go. We planned the trip BACK for April 2014 and this trip was even better!! It was an amazingly fun/cool group of people. Everybody stepped out of their comfort zone, confronted new fears, encouraged and helped each other, everybody bonded and became best friends, everybody was positive and brought something awesome to the group, and it was just a life changing adventure for all.
I made a video of THAT trip too (“Havasupai – The Adventure”) and the TRAVEL CHANNEL found it on YouTube and liked it so much they asked if they could use my footage and turn it into a show. Of course I said, “hell yes” so I sent them all of the raw footage to edit themselves. During that time, we planned another trip back (this time with 30 people who were inspired by the last video) so we went back in May 2015. The Travel Channel wasn’t done with the editing yet and I told them I was going back so they held off and waited for my 2015 footage too. So now my 2014 and 2015 trips will both end up on a show called “Secret Swimming Holes” on the Travel Channel on August 2nd, 2015 at 7pm. Pretty exciting.
Check out all of the videos below and email me if you have any questions. Enjoy..
