My 1st freestyle battle!! See video here
So, when I was younger…I used to freestyle at parties or in the car with friends/etc and it was something I’d more-or-less just mess around with for fun. I never thought I’d be put on the spot and thrown into my 1st rap battle LIVE ON THE RADIO . lol
Friends made me enter a rap contest on the radio with the Sports Junkies (popular D.C. morning radio show) back in 2002. Since all I was doing at the time was getting up on the mic and freestyling with my roommate’s band (SEV) on the weekends….I was pretty sure that I’d get smoked in this contest. I ended up winning, which was pretty awesome, but after they announced the winners….the Sports Junkies made me “battle” the runner up - Seezmics of Educated Consumers. Seezmics aka Cole is an emcee who I really respect. He’s a great freestyler and a deep/insightful rapper with an organic type of vibe who keeps the true essence of hiphop alive in a time when the genre is a bit watered down (in my opinion).
This is an audio clip of our battle.
